Easy Radish Varieties:

1. SOILS:

  • Radishes need well-drained soil with a pH between 5.8 and 6.8
  • Moist soils but not waterlogged
  • Garden Bed, Containers or Pots all work well
  • Just make sure to have at least 10 inches of soil in your containers 
  • Apply Organic All-Purpose Fertilizer

Depending on your geographic location, soils vary tremendously and need different soil amendments.

2. SUNLIGHT:

Radishes love full sun but can tolerate a little bit of shade; 6 Hours of full sun should be enough for a healthy crop.

3. TEMPERATURE:

Radishes can be grown in all temperatures but they prefer cool to moderate temperatures.

They do not tolerate hot weather and will become pithy and hot tasting.

4. PLANTING:

Radishes can be planted anytime during your growing season, starting in early spring.

Specifics on Planting Radishes:

  1. Plant in 3 inch wide bands
  2. 1/2 inch deep
  3. 1 inch apart in all directions
  4. rows 1 foot apart
  5. 35 seeds plants 1 foot
  6. Hand Weed or Mulch to suppress weeds

Radishes are fast growing so keep soil moist.

5. COLD HARDINESS:

Plant after frost in early spring. Radish tolerate cool weather.

6. DAYS to GERMINATE: 5 to 7 days

Radishes  typically germinate in approximately 5 to 7 days

7. THINNING:  10 days 

Plan on thinning your radishes at 10 days if they are coming up too thickly.

8. DAYS to MATURITY:  21 to 28 days

Radishes mature and are ready for harvest in approximately 21 to 28 days.

9. HOW to HARVEST: 

  • Begin harvesting your radishes at 21 days or when they are the size of large grapes.
  • Carefully pulled tops of radishes and ease out the radish.
  • Wash off dirt then eat or store

10. STORAGE IDEAS: 

  • Wash and Bunch
  • Store in breathable package 
  • Refrigerator Crisper Draw
  • Up to 4 weeks

  • Garden Spot
  • Deep 12" Container
  • Flower Pot
  • Garden Soil or
  • Potting Soil

Tools

  • Small Trowel

Instructions

SOILS:
