Instructions
To make your Oven-baked French fries, follow these steps:
01 Place your washed potatoes on a cutting board and cut your potatoes into thin, even fries. Always remember that thin fries have a better crispiness than thick ones. All though, we have a tendency to make a little thicker fry rather than thinner ones! (as it takes less time!)
Furthermore, this helps insure that your fries bake evenly by having them cut up thinly as well as the same size.
02 It really helps to soak your potatoes in a large bowl of cold water for around 30 minutes before baking and then drain and pat dry. These steps removes the extra starch for a crisper fry.
If you have the time, re-soak your potatoes a second time in fresh water for about 15 more minutes and even up to 24 hours. If soaking overnight, make sure to place the bowl in the refrigerator.

a time saver Quick Tip….
(But, if you are in a big hurry, then just rinse, not soak, your cut up potatoes a second time in fresh water will help remove the excess starch!)
03 Remove potato with a slotted spoon, drain and pat dry your raw potato sticks, making sure they are dry using either a dish towel or paper towels. Drying the potato sticks is important so you do not end up with soggy fries.
04 After drying the potato sticks, place in a bowl and either spray with vegetable or toss with 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. I like using olive oil or avocado oil.
Actually, I think the best oil for oven baked fries is avocado oil as it has a high smoke point so is safer for the higher oven temperature needed. I have not tried peanut oil or canola oil but I would think the fries would turn out great.
05 Toss your cut potatoes so they are evenly coated with oil.
06 Now, is the time to add a touch of extra seasoning to your fries if you want.
- fresh rosemary or parsley
- sprinkle of dried herb mix
- smoked paprika
- chili powder,
- garlic powder
- onion powder or
- for an extra spicy flair with a barbecue mix

07 Spread fries on a large baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Using parchment paper helps insure your fries do not stick to the pan.
Or, consider using a cast iron griddle or skillet like we do. The cast iron is the perfect surface for even baking and makes for the best fries.
08 Lightly salt your fries before baking them for the best taste, if you want.
now, for baking….
09 Bake your fries at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 20 minutes. Keep an eye on them. This is a higher temperature than normal but it is necessary to achieve the golden brown color for crispier fries.
10 Flip your potatoes midway to insure they are evenly baked on both sides.
11 Finally, serve them immediately for the best experience!
12 Pair your homemade fries with your favorite sauce, homemade ranch dressing or catsup!
COnsider sprinkling with one of the following:
- a little Black Pepper
- Parmesan Cheese
- Grated Cheddar Cheese ☺
