Homesteading: 4 Fantastic Reasons Why YOU Must Start Today!
“I make myself rich by making wants few”
Henry David Thoreau
I found a quote recently that really matches our way of life. It also reminded me of the valuable lessons I’ve learned from it.
As an experienced homesteading family, we feel wealthier by letting go of unnecessary things. We live a greener life and enjoy fresh air. But it isn’t simply about living a traditional homestead life.

Don’t believe me?
Let’s look at a few benefits of homesteading in the modern world:
1. Fresh Foods
First up is the scrumptious food that ends up at your table. I honestly feel that nothing beats a hearty, home-cooked meal. It’s definitely healthier than the trays of fast food you grab at the food courts or the fast food places. Plus, it’s more fulfilling, too!
Then, there is the fact that the house never runs out of food when you rely on self-sufficiency and self-reliance. From preserved strawberry & mixed berry jams and freshly baked goodies to a well-roasted turkey, the homestead life is utterly delicious.
As well as growing a garden in a garden bed or pots and containers, consider looking for wild berries to add to your winter stash. Wildcrafting gooseberries is a wonderful late summer and fall activity!

Nature’s Bounty
Remember the Romantics? They wrote passionately about nature and made everyday life seem special. While I’m not a great poet, I get why they loved nature.
The fresh air and plants feel freeing during my morning walks.
Gardening is the best! You just need a small patch of land or a pot to start your garden. Caring for it can change your life. Being close to nature is truly magical. Learn to grow a kitchen garden today!
3. Become More Self-Sufficient
I read that living a homesteading life is similar to living without GMOs.
This means we don’t worry about what’s in our food. We usually choose fresh fruits and vegetables from our garden and meat from hunting. We also grow many of our own herbs and spices. These fresh ingredients and my hard work help us stay healthy.
Kids raised in this environment grow stronger and become more adaptable.
4. Homesteading Adventure
Feeling bored with your daily routine?
Try new homesteading skills. Learn old-fashioned crafts, sew your own clothes, or care for a backyard chicken coop. There’s lots to do if you make the time.
I often get caught up in my daily tasks. I never know when the cow will act up or if my vegetable garden will do well this season.
Life can be enjoyable and surprising when you choose simple hobbies and activities.
It’s a Wrap
Homesteading isn’t just about having a lot of land. It’s about enjoying the best things in life at home. You’ll find that your projects bring joy to your day and teach you about being self-reliant, sustainable, and persistent.
Why wait? Join the homesteading movement! Life is definitely better here.
