How to Make a Beautiful Grapevine Wreath
Have you ever made a grapevine wreath for your holiday decorations yet? If not, then you have come to the right place.
We have a simple step-by-step guide on how you can create and decorate a beautiful grapevine wreath for your home door.
Grapevine Wreath
Before we get started, let’s discuss what a grapevine is and where you can find them.
Grapevine is a type of wood that is popularly used in making craft wreaths. Grapevines also grow wild in many parts of the country.
Where to Find Grapevines
These wild vines can be found growing along fence lines. If you happen to see some wild grapevines, you might ask the landowner or farmer if you can cut some for wreaths. Most people are willing to let you cut some vines.
You can also buy grapevines from a floral shop, from a nursery, or maybe even try growing some in your garden.
The best grapevine comes out around August and September, which is why they are often a part of the fall and winter décor. However, for a grapevine wreath, you can also use one-year-old plants.
Now that you know where to get your grapevine from, let’s see what you need.

Step 1: Untangle the Grapevines
Gather all your vines and start untangling them. Once you have untangled them, you need to organize them in a bundle.
Fresh vines may have dried leaves or pieces of fruit – you have to clear them all out. Pick the vines that are clean so that your wreath gives a tidy look.
After untangling them, soak them in water for two to three hours, so that they are easy to twist and twirl in a circle.
Step 2: Tie the Vines in a Circle
When you have tamed these wild vines and ensured they are completely dry, you can start putting them together in a circle. The best way to do this is to shape them around a bucket or around your arm. Start bringing the vines together. You will need to cut a few to make a circle.

Sep 3: Form the Wreath
Your vines are now organized in a circle – but they aren’t a wreath yet. In order to start forming the wreath, start looping the vines into a ring. For the second layer, start looping the vines inside out with the inner layer to form a pattern.
Continue twisting the vines and forming the layers until you start seeing the shape of a wreath. Pull each vine strand a few times through to the inside of the ring, forming a spiral, so that the vines are tightly bonded with one another.
Use the scissors to cut the sharp loose ends, especially those on the outer side. Twist them to the inner side of the ring. If the vines are stiff, tie them with floral bind wire wherever needed. Use this technique to give your wreath a pretty shape, without loose or shape edges.
When you are done shaping it, set it aside for at least one day in a cold, dry place. The wreath may shrink a bit once it dries.

Step 4: Decorate the Wreath
This is our favorite part! Now that you have a dried up grapevine wreath, it’s time to start decorating it.
Use white flowers, green leaves, or colorful ribbons to decorate the wreath according to your occasion. You can use a hot glue gun to stick the ribbons and flowers on it.
It’s entirely up to you how you want to decorate your grapevine wreath. You may use plastic berries or bows for Christmas or white flowers if you are following a winter theme. Ornamental birds, silk ribbons, and paint can also be used.
You can decorate it any way you want— the possibilities are endless.
