I’ve made many birthday cakes with this simple recipe. It only needs one cup of sugar, unless you add delicious chocolate frosting, which increases the sugar!
Low-sugar desserts fit well in a healthy diet, and most people will enjoy this cake.
This scratch cake recipe is easy to follow and fairly healthy. I prefer using organic ingredients and Einkorn flour, but any unbleached flour works well too.

Mix on low for 1 minute and then beat on medium-high for 4 minutes. Make sure to beat on medium-high for at least 4 minutes to have the fluffiest homemade cake ever!!!
- Add one cup of boiling water and mix on low until blended.
- Pour the batter into an oiled Bundt pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
- Check if it’s done by inserting a knife or toothpick into the cake. If it comes out clean, the cake is ready.
- Take it out of the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes on a wire rack before removing it from the pan. Use a kitchen knife to gently loosen the cake from the edges of the Bundt pan.
- Flip the cake onto a serving platter or cake plate. Allow it to cool completely before frosting.

Note: This one-cup sugar chocolate cake recipe will fill your Bundt pan to the top.
This cake won’t rise any higher, as it will reach the very edge of the pan. It’s a high-rising cake made from scratch that is moist, fluffy, and not crumbly.
